How I curated content to create a catalog selling HESS Toy Truck products.

Introduction

The Hesstorians Catalog is a catalog advertising a conceptual website for the redistribution of HESS Toy Trucks with the hopes of helping clients complete their collection of HESS products/antiques as it places high value on the customers hobbies and interests and promises of quality and follow-through.

The project

-Create a logo

-Photograph Hess products

-Isolate the products off their background

-Design a catalog layout

The logo

I created a two-color logo using the Pun name of HESSTORIANS making the color split where the word HESS ends. I used a bold San-serif font to emphasize the text as it is the main element of the logo.

Photographing

Light tents and lightboxes were used to create a photographic setting where the background of the shot looks seamless, natural and make it easier to identify the objects’ edges for isolation. The Trucks were shot on black matte paper because the products are predominantly white to maintain contrast for isolation.

Isolating

Using the pen tool, I selected the edges of the products and negative space so I can use a layer mask to isolate them off the background and export them as PNGs for clean placement on the catalog.

Designing the layout

When designing the layout, I decided to make sure the color scheme melded well with the colors of the products with the accent of a more yellow color. After blocking out areas with the colors I placed the images onto it and placed text about pricing description and deals if applicable. Most of the format worked with San-serif fonts and geometric layouts that mix text and imagery.
